When children are removed from an unsafe home, they are confused, frightened, and feel alone. They may have suffered from abuse or neglect. Very often, they travel with their belongings squeezed into trash bags. Sometimes, they have only the clothes on their backs.
You can let a child know that someone cares by donating a new or gently used duffle bag filled with simple, everyday items. During what is a stressful and uncertain time in their life, having something to call their own can bring a child comfort and joy when everything else has been taken.
Your donation of a filled duffle bag can be brought the Ghent Office, 222 W. 19th Street, Norfolk, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please note when packing your duffle bag that many children in The Up Center’s Foster Care Services are tweens and teens.
Duffle bag contents:
- Pajamas (all sizes, but especially school aged kids all the way up to teenagers)
- Scrunchies and other hair accessories
- Underwear (all sizes, but especially school aged kids all the way up to teenagers)
