After 587 days in foster care, Gigi (pictured above) finally found a permanent and loving family with the Garretts. Each of the 1,000 Hampton Roads children in foster care are dreaming of the same happy ending to their own painful story. Each month, The Up Center, the region’s oldest and largest family services agency, is hosting free information sessions for adults interested in becoming foster parents.
“The demand for committed foster parents to provide a safe and caring home for children that have been abused or neglected is overwhelming,” says Heather Watkins, Outreach & Recruitment Coordinator at The Up Center. “We are looking for those willing to open their hearts and their homes to children in need.”
Contrary to popular belief, foster parents don’t have to be married, own a home, have kids of their own, be a stay-at-home parent, have a college degree or be wealthy to foster or adopt a child. Those interested are invited to join a free, no-obligation information session (refreshments provided):
- Thursday, June 11, 12:00 p.m., The Up Center, Downtown Norfolk
