Arts and crafts stores are bursting at the seams with ideas and supplies for tons of summer fun – from tie-dying t-shirts and weaving friendship bracelets to mask-making and costume design.

Each summer millions of campers carefully and enthusiastically create treasures that will recall fond memories for years to come. Taking part in arts and crafts activities offers additional benefits by strengthening fine motor skills, inspiring creative thinking, and encouraging socialization.

At Camp Horizon, The Up Center’s summer camp for people with disabilities, campers with varying levels of skills are able to enjoy a variety of arts and craft activities, as well as sports and music, due to contributions from compassionate donors.

Six years ago, Marysol Flores received a call from her son’s caseworker telling her to look into Camp Horizon. It was just what she and her son, Darius, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, needed—a camp that offers an engaging environment. “Camp Horizon keeps him entertained with activities like dancing, swimming, and arts and crafts. Darius gets really excited when he hears music and he will clap his hands with excitement,” said Marysol. Darius attends camp each year, crafting new works of art and creating lifelong memories.

To keep up with enthusiastic campers like Darius means having a lot of supplies on hand. Camp Horizon is able to support so many campers and their families because of contributions from people like you.

Items needed include:

  • CDs
  • Board games
  • Puzzles
  • Craft supplies (white cotton t-shirts, washable tempura paint, feathers, clue, pipe cleaners, 1in+ masking tape, and washable markers)
