Everyone deserves a second chance, and yet sometimes those second chances aren’t easy to come by. Realizing he needed to care for his two young children, Darfeis Williams wanted to make a change, but his criminal background proved an obstacle he just couldn’t overcome on his own.
“I ended up in jail. When I got out I wanted to change my life around,” said Darfeis. ”But I had never worked. I didn’t know how to get a job.”
Up Center Books gave him that second chance. With the help of the job-training program, he gained not just employment skills but the ability to improve his personal relationships. Darfeis continues to utilize those skills to help others in the program. He recently came back to Up Center Books, not as a program participant but as a full-time employee. He is now the Assistant Warehouse Supervisor, and he says, “The Up Center has never given up on me.”
The Up Center is no longer accepting book donations.
