The Up Center Receives Darden Foundation Community Grant

The Up Center has been selected to receive a $3,000 grant as part of the Restaurant Community Grants program from the Darden Restaurants Foundation, Inc., the charitable arm of Darden Restaurants, which operates over 21,000 restaurants.

The grants program, now in its third year, empowers each restaurant in the Darden family of brands to help award a $1,000 grant to support local community programs. Three local restaurants chose to support The Up Center:

  • Red Lobster: 709 Independence, Virginia Beach
  • Red Lobster: 4115 Chesapeake Square, Chesapeake
  • Yard House: 4549 Commerce St, Virginia Beach

“We strive to make a positive impact in all the communities our restaurants serve,” said Gene Lee, Darden’s president and chief operating officer. “Our employees are incredibly passionate about getting directly involved in their local communities, and our Restaurant Community Grants program enables each of our restaurant teams to make a difference right in their own backyard.”

Nonprofits receiving grants support one of Darden’s three keyfocus areas: education, preservation of natural resources and hunger relief. The funds received by The Up Center will help support the Team Up Mentoring Program. Team Up matches adult role models with kids, many of whom come from single parent homes or from foster homes. 95% of children who participate in The Up Center’s Team Up Mentoring Program for one year show improvement in the realms of school, behavior, and social functioning.
