The Up Center’s caring counseling professionals can help people of all ages dealing with life’s challenges. Services are provided on a sliding fee scale.

THERAPY SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES

FAMILY AND INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

The Up Center’s professional staff provides thousands of hours of counseling every year to help individuals and families manage the stresses of life. Whether the problem is depression, anxiety, abuse, divorce, the loss of a loved one, or there’s just a need to talk, we can help.

TRAUMA-FOCUSED COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY  (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is a treatment intervention designed to help children, adolescents and their families to overcome the negative effects of a traumatic experience such as child sexual or physical abuse, traumatic loss of a loved one, domestic, school or community violence, r exposure to a natural disaster.

VETERAN AND MILITARY FAMILY COUNSELING

The Up Center offers counseling to active duty military and recent veterans, including those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We also offer support for military families dealing with the stress of deployment and military life.

GROUP THERAPY

SUBSTANCE ABUSE GROUPS

The Up Center provides FREE substance abuse group counseling to adolescents and adults regarding prevention, addiction and recovery. The goal of these groups is to reduce problematic use of substances through an educational counseling approach.

SEEKING SAFETY GROUP

The Up Center’s Seeking Safety Groups provide research-based support for men and women who have experienced trauma, including those who have been abused, victimized by crime, or distressed by war or natural disasters. Participants will work to learn positive coping skills.

ANGER MANAGEMENT & BATTERER’S INTERVENTION GROUPS

The Up Center’s Anger Management and Domestic Violence groups help inhibit violent behavior by improving social skills and impulse control while teaching empathy and compassion for others.

WOMEN’S ASSERTIVENESS GROUP

This 8-week class is free and open to any woman 21+ who wants to learn to be more assertive in her relationships. Sessions take place in Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk. To join, contact Jessica Oulahan by email or at 757-965-8652. Space is limited; register early.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)

The Up Center provides EAP services to employees of some local corporations on a contract basis.
