Classes Many of our classes and programs are scheduled individually or by appointment only. Please contact our main office number at 757-622.7017 for more information about any of our programs. Listed below is information on some of our commonly scheduled events, group activities and classes. Prevention Group Activities Summer Camp for Individuals with Disabilities

Seeking Safety Group for Adults This is an empowering group for adults who have experienced trauma, including those who have been abused, victimized by crime, or distressed by war or natural disasters. The group focuses on skills and tools to enhance current life and relationships and reduce the need for compulsive behaviors (substance abuse, spending, eating, etc.). The group meets at The Up Center, 222 West 19th St., Norfolk, VA. There is NO CHARGE to attend; funding has been provided by the Sentara Health Foundation. Early Childhood STEP Classes (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) STEP is a nationally recognized program for parents of children 1 to 6 years of age. The 7-week program emphasizes effective discipline, understanding stages of emotional development, the motivation behind children’s behavior and more. The program is approved for court mandated participants and for all other parents interested in learning about childhood development and behavior. 2.) Active Parenting of Teens and Preteens This class focuses on communication, mutual respect, and more! The nationally recognized 6-week program is designed for parents of teens and preteens-children around age ten and older. Autism Treatment This 6-week class focuses on providing structure, social skills, developing strengths and self esteem as well as family stress management. VHDA (Virginia Housing Development Authority) Homebuyer Education – All classes are six hours long and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 9 p.m. on both days. *The Art of Debt Management may be held at your venue for classes of 10 or more; $100 advance deposit will be returned upon completion of class with 10 individuals present. 3.) Get the Facts – Want to buy a home but are afraid or think you can’t qualify; Get the Facts! is made possible by Freddie Mac and a grant from the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation. This is a 90 minute class. Foster Parent Training Our foster care staff will be happy to provide an orientation for anyone considering becoming a foster parent. Please call Christa Paulosky at 757.965.8670 for more information. Once an orientation is complete, potential foster parents can pick training sessions that work with their schedules. Other prescheduled events include Team Up mentoring events and therapy group meetings. Our programs are held by appointment only.
