Autism Support
The Up Center is now offering screenings for children with behavioral concerns and consultations for children with known developmental disorders. The Up Center also offers support groups for families of children on the autistic spectrum. Details about all these services are below:
Support Groups
In January 2009, The Up Center introduced two groups designed specifically to provide support to youth on the autism spectrum and their families. These groups run concurrently: one for parents and the other for their children. These concurrent sessions will ensure that the whole family is supported, while eliminating the need for multiple scheduled appointments, child care and additional travel time. The groups will run approximately 10 weeks for about 90 minutes.
- For children. The Autism Social, Emotional, Educational Development (A-SEED) Group for Kids include topics such as:
- Friendship Skills, Dealing With Feelings
- Alternatives To Aggression and Classroom Survival Skills.
To schedule an appointment for screening, download the A-SEED Prescreen Form here .
- For parents. The Parents Embracing Autism through Camaraderie and Education (PEACE) Support Group includes topics such as:
- Providing Structure
- Recognizing and Supporting Child/Adolescent Sensitivities/Triggers
- Developing Child's Strengths and Self Esteem
- Sibling Support
- Family Stress Management
Parent group participants are limited to 2 caregivers per child. There is no charge for the parent group. No child care is available.
