ACTIVE PARENTING OF TEENS AND “TWEENS” PROGRAM

The Up Center is preparing to start new classes to help parents and organizations that shape the lives of our area's teens and tweens (children ages 11 and older).

The basic psychology underlying the Active Parenting of Teens program is open communication, nonviolent discipline, and mutual respect.

The parenting program includes the essential Active Parenting model that has benefited millions of parents, plus:

  • teens and technology (social networking sites, the Internet, etc.)
  • improved discipline and communication
  • the latest in teen drug use prevention (including prescription drugs)
  • updated teen sexuality issues
  • special stepfamily considerations
  • teen depression and suicide
  • updated gang & violence prevention
  • how brain development affects teen behavior and decision-making

During the 6-session version of this program, parents will learn skills for:

  1. Communicating effectively with their teens
  2. Preventing the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
  3. Disciplining while teaching responsibility
  4. Encouraging the development of self-esteem and character
  5. Redirecting misbehavior, and
  6. Encouraging nonviolent conflict resolution

Armed with these new skills, parents are better prepared to raise teens who are cooperative, responsible and able to resist peer pressure. These teens are then empowered to become adults who live happy, independent and productive lives.

Each session is two hours long. Classes are forming now for this new program. The fee for the 6 session program is $75.00 per person or $12.50 per person per session if less than 6.
