Step Up with Style

Show your creative side by participating in the "Step Up with Style" shoe design competition, and you may just win a $100 gift card to MacArthur Center in Norfolk.

There are 2 ways to win:
1) By votes from our prestigious "Expert Panel" made up of NFL Hall of Famer Bruce Smith, Editor-in-Chief Kim Wadsworth of VOW Bride Magazine and Karen Winters, Marketing & Sponsorship Director of MacArthur Center

2) By votes of the People's Choice Award, where participants decide on their favorite

Here's how to participate:

1) Drop off your decorated shoe and completed entry form between January 17 - March 16 at Up Center Books at 1011 W. 25th St., Norfolk, VA 23517.   *Entry Deadline: March 16 at Noon

2) Like our Step Up Facebook page, then cast your vote for your favorite shoe by "liking" it, before March 23 at Noon. The Top 10 finalists will be displayed at Dominion Tower. On March 25, winners will be selected by event participants and announced at 12:30 p.m.

Guidelines:

- All entries are to be created on a canvas or athletic shoe and must reflect the Up Center mission within the design. For example: Books representing Up Center Books job training program, Children representing Foster Care program, etc. More info can be found on www.theupcenter.org.

- Shoes should be well constructed as they may be moved and mounted for display numerous times. Appliques and other applied objects should be firmly attached.

- Each entry must include a name tag with the designer's name, contact info and shoe name. Name tags must be attached to the interior of the shoe or written with a sharpie.

- All designers are encouraged to include a short paragraph of 50 words or less describing your inspiration for the piece.

Judging:

Judging will be based on subject matter, creativity and craftsmanship. All entries must be tasteful. The organizing committee reserves the right to refuse accept or display any entry.
